St. Patricks Day

St. Patricks Day is a week away! Here are a few ideas on how to celebrate.

My mother used to make my brother and I green milkshakes every St. Patrick's Day morning before school. Although it is not an irish recipe here is an adult twist on the green mint milkshake.
  • 1 cup chocolate chip ice cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 shot of cream de menthe

Martha Stewart suggests adding four leaf clover stamp to everyday paper decorations to make them festive. Just a simple clover on your favorite cupcake recipe will add some St. Patricks day luck!

  • For every 10,000 three-clover shamrocks there is only 1 four-clover shamrock
  • Each clover stands for something different faith, hope, love, and luck

  • In Ireland on St. Patricks day men where bunches of clovers, women wear green ribbons in their hair and children wear orange, white and green badges.

  • 34 million Americans have Irish ancestry, according to the 2003 US Census. That’s almost nine times the population of Ireland, which has 4.1 million people.

  • The harp is the symbol of Ireland. The color green is also commonly associated with Ireland, also known as “the Emerald Isle.”

  • The name “lephrechaun” has several origins. It could be from the Irish Gaelic word “leipreachan,” which means “a kind of aqueous sprite.” Or, it could be from “leath bhrogan,” which means “shoemaker.”
